(Sunrise at Rancho de Chimayo)
Nestled in the mountains of Northern New Mexico is the small village of Chimayo. Chimayo is the Tewa Indian description for the red "flaking stone" found in the surrounding hills. In this village is the Jaramillo family's Rancho de Chimayo.

The Jaramillo family has resided in Chimayo since 1680 and traces their roots to the first Spanish settlers although most recent studies are indicating that the family originally settled in Chimayo in 1601. In the 1800's, two brothers, Hermenegildo and Epifanio Jaramillo, assisted each other in building their family homes.

Today, their descendants have restored those homes and have brought to Chimayo a lovely restaurant, country inn and galeria: Restaurante Rancho de Chimayo, Hacienda Rancho de Chimayo and The Rancho de Chimayo Collection.
In October of 1965, the home of Hermenegildo and Trinidad Jaramillo was transformed by grandson Arturo Jaramillo and his lovely wife Florence Jaramillo into the Restaurante Rancho de Chimayo. Today Florence Jaramillo's vision has continued to attract people of all nations including worldly dignitaries, International media and local patrons to experience the unique native northern New Mexican Cuisine.
Currently, the Rancho de Chimayo Restaurant is one of the most visited dining establishments in the world and is continually listed as a top 100 restaurant establishment in the United States.
This century old adobe home with white-washed walls, hand stripped vigas, cozy dining rooms and lush terraced patios has become one of New Mexico's more popular places to dine.

Hacienda Rancho de Chimayo
In August of 1984, the Jaramillo family completed restoration of Hacienda Rancho de Chimayo, the family home of Epifanio and Adelaida Jaramillo.

Built in the adobe tradition, the home has been renovated into seven lovely guest rooms. Each guest room opens into an enclosed courtyard and within each room one can find turn of the century antiques, a private bath, a quite sitting area and fireplace. In the old world tradition, a continental breakfast with pastry, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee or tea awaits each guest in the morning.
